Barters Island Boathouse

Unpack, Relax, and Feel at Home When you walk down the hill to the Boathouse, you’ll get the sense that you’ve spent time there before. It feels familiar, like a place filled with family, connection, and community. You enter a beautiful open space, beginning with the kitchen and dining area and flowing into the living room, where you’ll find books, games, a piano, and giant picture windows overlooking a quiet tidal cove. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the water. The entire space is thoughtfully arranged. Every chair, couch, and table seems perfectly placed to capture the calm beauty of the surroundings, easing you into relaxation. Open the windows and enjoy the refreshing cross breeze. The afternoon naps on the couch are downright luxurious. The front porch overlooks the cove and is another great place to enjoy the morning or evening. Just off the main open space is a cozy den, and from there you can step onto a deck with chairs overlooking the water. It’s the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or an evening cocktail while watching the tide flow in and out and the birds go by. Upstairs are two cozy bedrooms and the bathroom. Both bedrooms have large windows that bring in natural light and offer beautiful views. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and there is plenty of space to actually unpack your things. The feeling is, unpack, don’t just stay here, live here. The shower is great, especially the water pressure. This might sound funny, but even the bath towels were oversized, soft, and wonderfully “thirsty.” The kitchen is clean and has everything you’ll need. The coffee maker brews a fine cup, which you’ll want to make first thing in the morning so you can settle in and watch the changing tide. Overall, our visit to the Boathouse exceeded our expectations. Barters Island in Boothbay is a lovely oasis from the hustle and bustle. You breathe easier here. It’s peaceful, calm, and serene, and it somehow feels like home. We will be back.
